This site is operated by Solar Analytica Pty Ltd (“Wattbench”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect when you use https://wattbench.ai, why, and what we never do with it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
The calculators run in your browser
Every calculator on this site runs entirely on your device. The figures you enter are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to us unless you sign in and deliberately save a calculator run to your account.
The Near-Shade Sun-Path Check can fill in the site's latitude and longitude from your device, and asks your browser for the location only when you tap its button. The coordinates stay in that page's memory: they are not stored, not sent to Wattbench and not put in the page address, and a saved run leaves them out unless you tick the box to include them.
The Right-Now Output Spot Check works the same way: it asks your browser for the location only when you tap its button, keeps the coordinates in that page's memory, never stores them, sends them to Wattbench or puts them in the page address, and leaves them out of a saved run unless you tick the box. The time it uses is read from your device's clock when you tap to stamp it.
The NEM12 Load Profiler reads a meter data file you choose with your browser's own file reader. The file and its readings are never uploaded to Wattbench or sent to analytics, never written to browser storage or IndexedDB and never placed in the address bar, and the tool has no option to save them to an account. They stay in the open page until you clear them, reload or leave. The NMI is shown only by its last four characters. If you open the battery or system size calculator from the results, the figures that calculator fills (mean daily grid import, an off-solar share and the file's date range, never the NMI or the readings) pass through that browser tab's session storage, and the calculator deletes them as soon as it reads them.
Offline pack and local field drafts
On a production visit, Wattbench prepares a public field pack in your browser cache so supported references can open without a connection. Private account, authentication and API pages are excluded from that pack. Installing the app keeps the same field pack available from your home screen; installation is not required for the cache to be prepared. Choosing a field pack as your current job, or choosing a brand or keeping a product family in My Bench, saves the extra public pages that job or brand uses in the same cache. Those are the same public pages anyone can open, and the exclusions above apply to them in the same way. So that an app update can keep them, the browser also keeps a short list of which field packs and public page addresses were saved; it holds no account details, searches, product identifiers or job content. Clearing the job, or taking the brand off My Bench, removes it from that list, and the next app update leaves its pages out.
My Bench can keep equipment preferences, recent public resources and a local job scratchpad on the device. Scratchpad text is stored in browser storage and selected photos are stored in the browser's IndexedDB. They are not sent to Wattbench, analytics or an account unless you take a separate, deliberate action: copying a handoff note or exporting a photo still does not upload it, and opening job records does not import the draft automatically.
A pre-install site survey started on My Bench is part of that same local job draft. What you record in it (the supply arrangement, main switch and meter as labelled or seen, spare ways, roof faces, shade notes, route lengths, proposed equipment locations, the distribution network you choose and, if you enter it, the NMI) stays in browser storage on this device only, and survey photos stay in IndexedDB with the other draft photos. None of it is sent to Wattbench, analytics or an account, and the links to other tools carry none of it. When you copy the handoff note, the NMI is shortened to its last four characters unless you choose to include the full NMI for that copy. The clear control on My Bench removes the survey with the rest of the draft.
The Supply Headroom Worksheet keeps what you type in page memory only: nothing is stored on the device, sent to Wattbench or analytics, or put in the address. Its “Fill rating from my site survey” control reads the main switch rating and supply arrangement from the survey on this device only when you tap it, and never writes to the survey. A run leaves the page only if you sign in and deliberately save it to your account.
The Continuity and Loop Impedance Expectation keeps what you type in page memory only: nothing is stored on the device, sent to Wattbench or analytics, or put in the address. A run leaves the page only if you sign in and deliberately save it to your account.
The String Test Verifier keeps the string readings you enter (module count, Voc, Isc, polarity, insulation resistance and the datasheet and test conditions) in browser storage on this device only, under their own record. They are not sent to Wattbench, analytics or an account, and they are not added to saved job records. Copying them as text is the only way they leave the device, and the page's clear control removes them.
The Owner Handover Card holds no data about you, the owner or the site. Choosing a product family happens inside the page: the choice is not stored, sent to Wattbench or analytics, or put in the address, and it is gone when you leave. The card's write-in lines are printed blank for the installer to complete by hand.
Datasheet spec cards, the module and inverter figures you type in on My Bench along with each datasheet's address and revision, are kept in browser storage on this device only, under their own record. They are not sent to Wattbench, analytics or an account, they are not synced between devices and they are never shared or published. Copying them as JSON text is the only way they leave the device, and deleting a card on My Bench removes it. When you fill a calculator from a card and then deliberately save that calculator run to your account, the saved run records the card's brand, model, datasheet address and revision, so the result shows what it used.
Use the clear control when the draft is no longer needed, especially on a shared device. Clearing site data or uninstalling the app may also remove local drafts and photos. Wattbench cannot restore device-only work that has not been copied or exported.
Waitlist and Field Notes
If you join the Pro beta list or subscribe to Field Notes, we store your email address, which list you joined and your subscription status, and, to help us prevent abuse and understand where sign-ups come from, the page you subscribed from and your browser's user-agent string. We use this only to run the list you asked for. Sign up is single opt-in: your address is added when you submit the form. Every Field Notes email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can opt out or ask us to remove you at any time (see Contact).
Contact form
If you use our contact form, we store the name, email address, topic and message you send so we can reply and keep a record of the conversation. We send you a confirmation and email ourselves a copy so we don't lose it.
Saved jobs and account data
If you create an account, you can save bookmarks, calculator runs and job notes. These are stored against your account so they can be opened across devices. A saved job also records the browser timezone used to interpret its field timestamps. You control what you enter. Avoid adding unnecessary personal information about customers. You can export or delete your account data from the account page.
Product feedback and requests
A helpful or needs-work vote stores the page, feedback category and a salted one-way IP hash for abuse prevention. It does not store your email. If you request a fault code, calculator or playbook, we store the email and field context you submit so we can understand and clarify the request.
Abuse prevention
To stop our forms being spammed, we store a salted, one-way hash of your IP address, never the address itself, for a short period, and limit how many submissions can come from one source. It isn't used to identify you.
Ask Watt (AI assistant)
When you use Ask Watt, we store your questions and Watt's answers so we can check the assistant is accurate and safe, plus any email address you choose to give it. Your question is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate the answer; Anthropic processes it on servers outside Australia (in the United States) and, under its commercial terms, does not use it to train its models. Watt answers only from Wattbench's own content. Please don't enter sensitive personal information into the chat.
Service providers
We use a small set of providers to run the site: Supabase (database), Resend (email delivery), Anthropic (the Ask Watt assistant), and Vercel (hosting). They process data on our behalf to provide those services, subject to their own security and privacy commitments.
Where your data is processed
Some of these providers store and process data on servers outside Australia, including in the United States. If you subscribe, you consent to the information you provide being handled overseas by these providers for the purposes described above. Simply browsing the site does not send your personal information overseas, beyond the standard hosting logs described below.
Information our host processes
Like most websites, our hosting provider may automatically log standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested, to operate the site securely and reliably. We use this only for operations and security, not to identify you.
Theme preference
Your light or dark theme choice is stored locally in your browser and never leaves your device.
Cookies and analytics
Strictly-necessary cookies keep you signed in, and your light/dark theme is stored locally in your browser. Neither needs consent. For anything beyond that we ask first. Where Google Analytics is enabled, it loads only after you accept cookies; decline and no analytics cookies are set. If you consent, we also record a small set of field-workflow events, such as creating a job, adding evidence or opening a report. Those events contain the action, a generic page path, the selected template and, where the workflow started from a public page, that page's public resource ID. An authorised staff pilot can also record one fixed outcome category against that public resource; it does not attach an account, job, timestamped evidence or free text. Real job IDs are removed before storage; no account ID, email, IP address, user agent or field evidence is retained. We turn on IP anonymisation and switch off advertising signals, so we don't build advertising profiles. You can change your choice any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer.
What we don't do
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.
Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you can ask us to access or correct the personal information we hold about you, or to remove your email from our lists. Email us at hello@wattbench.ai and we'll action it. If you believe we have mishandled your information, you may also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
