Solar Circuit Repeatedly Tripping

Capture when a protective device operates and escalate without repeatedly resetting a potentially unsafe circuit.

Repeated operation of a breaker or RCD is a protection event. Do not hold it on, bypass it or repeatedly reset it.

Keep the evidence with the job

These device-local checks are working state, not evidence. Save actual readings, observations and the outcome in a job record.

01

Record the trip

  1. Identify the labelled device without removing a cover.
  2. Record time, weather, system state and what else was operating.
  3. Capture any inverter or battery alert associated with the event.
02

Do not mask the fault

  1. Leave a device off if it will not remain set or trips again.
  2. Do not swap devices, disconnect conductors or bypass protection.
  3. Escalate immediately if there is heat, smell, sound or visible damage.
03

Licensed diagnosis

  1. Provide the event pattern and equipment details to a licensed electrician.
  2. Have the circuit, equipment and protection assessed under the applicable test process.
  3. Record the confirmed fault and rectification.
